The Evangelical Covenant Church:
Exploring Its Story

125th Anniversary Covenant Annual Meeting, 2010,
focusing on three themes central to Covenant
life and thought from 1885 to this day.

Session Two – Bound to One Another
Session Three – Called to Serve

Roots and Wings
A four-session seminar, based in 1 Peter 2, Psalm 19, and 1 Corinthians 13 that focuses on basic life questions: “Where Are You From?” “How Do You Relate?” “What Is Your Task?” and “Who Will Prevail?

Covenant Affirmations

Life in a Turbulent World
Five sessions audio seminar for self-examination that show biblically how only the turbulence of faith within us will be adequate to deal with the turbulence around us.

“Who Is on the Lord’s Side?”
“Shall We Gather at the River?"
“Do You Want to Be Healed?”
“Who Is Serving Whom?”
“What Does the Lord Require?”

Practicing Our Faith
Six Power Point sessions on keys to going “Deeper in Faith and Further In Mission” as individuals and members of Christ’s body. God’s Word must clearly be our life-long text and God’s
World—not ours alone-- must be our context. We, in turn, must be the individuals and communities of faith we are and can become in Christ, living into and out of our biblical rootage and growing in whole-life stewardship.

"When God Seems Absent"
Many struggle in life with what seems like God's absence. That has always been true, from earliest biblical times through all of church history, and it remains true today. This powerpoint presentation seeks to offer both comfort and direction to those suffering with feelings of distance from God as well as others.

Note: The first four themes in the study above are
borrowed from lectures by my brother on the Immigrant Experience. See Zenos E. Hawkinson, Anatomy of the Pilgrim Experience, edited by Philip J. Anderson and David E. Hawkinson (Chicago: Covenant Publications, 2000). Their relevance to church life today is stunning.
(Panel with three Covenant Ethnic Leaders,
Ed Delgado, Greg Yee, & Efrem Smith,
witnessing to what drew them to become
Covenanters and how they see themselves
furthering its life, thought, and spirit.)
